Children
from the local schools are assisting in the
photography of the Stuart Highway for the
Map Wall display. The aim of the this project
is to include a broad range of people from
the Warumungu community in the creation and
operation of the centre. |

The Bush Tucker display
will capture the diversity and beauty of the
traditional Aboriginal bush resources that
are used by the Warumungu people. |

Activities such as busi
trips for gathering bush resources, men's
and women's dance, and government official
visits have been recorded for inclusion in
the centre's media archive and video displays. |

The main building at Nyinkka Nyunyu houses a gallery,
interpretive display and shop. The gallery will show
occasional or long tern exhibitions, including material
on loan from the South Australia Museum and Museum Victoria.
Research and production has been done on the five main
sections of the permanent exhibition. Work being done
includes:
Dioramas
Local people are employed to produce 9 dioramas to show
some of the history of the Warumungu people. The dioramas
will be used to illustrate various themes shown in the
Map Wall installation in the centre.
Map Wall
A sketch map of part of Warumungu country is being designed
in consultation with community members of the Warumungu,
Warlmanpa, Warlpiri, Alyawarre and Kaytetye. Employees
at the centre are also working with students from the
Tennant Creek Primary School to photograph the Stuart
Highway to enhance the map wall display.
PortraitsWarumungu
community members are drawing portraits of themselves
which are being silkscreen printed at Julalikari Arts
and Crafts
Bush Resources
Collecting and preparing bush resources for a permanant
exhibition showing the local knowledge of the Warumungu
people. Local people are currently gathering plants
and animals to prepare them for display in the centre.
Video Installation
Video recording and photography will be an ongoing activity
during the creation of the cultural centre. Material
will be used for display in the centre as well as the
archival collection.
Land Claims History
Working
with the Central Lands Council for research on the history
of Warumungu land claims.
