Hi, we are Barkly Regional Arts. We are here to support community, artistic and cultural pursues in the Barkly region. This may include: visual arts, dance, music, theatre and media arts.
You see, we are where people say, ‘in the middle of nowhere’, and a long way from the movies, the theatres, colleges, shopping malls- all those facilities city folks take for granted. Barkly Arts tries to make things happen here- creative and community development that makes life in the outback just as enjoyable and worthwhile as anywhere else.

Barkly Regional Arts ‘make things happen’ in several ways. We organise both local and visiting performances, exhibitions and art workshops for all ages and sizes. We also want people like you to recognise our talents, so we assist local artists and musicians in promoting their work, developing markets and obtaining grants to further their works. Barkly Arts also want to build community, so we work closely with other community organisations and government councils (as in remote communities) and act as an advisory body in cultural and artistic development.

Why do we do it? We have something great in the Barkly, a strong sense of arts and cultural base that we want to harness and to let the rest of Australia and the world to know. Here, we have a large population of the oldest culture on Earth- the Australian Aboriginals. We need to provide people here the opportunities and resources to develop arts and culture.
And, we want people of the Barkly to be happier, more purposeful individuals as well as a community. Developing artistic and creative interests, along with a sense of community can help people achieve more satisfying lives. We have a range of problems here, relating to history, geographical isolation, lack of educational and employment opportunities. We really hope that our work would act as antidotes to some of the social problems here.
